  • How is eWealth different from constructing portfolio myself?

While constructing portfolio on your own is possible, it will require multiple purchases of individual marketable securities on your own with decisions on specific quantity and price to be made thereby taking up more time to construct a portfolio. Moreover, depending on your individual marketable securities’ purchase size you may end up paying for minimum brokerage charges in addition to having to meet minimum lot sizes. On the other hand, we do not charge a minimum brokerage charge and you are not bound by individual minimum lot size trade constraint. Since you will be purchasing a portfolio, you do not need to make specific decisions on quantity and prices of securities to buy at. We show you the details in a portfolio and if you choose to buy the portfolio we will buy that portfolio for you.

  • Investments

  • What is Goal investing?

Goal investing refers to investing to meet a specific goal such as buying your dream home or financing your child’s tertiary education in the future. You may set whatever goal you wish to on the CGS-CIMB eWealth platform. We take into account your risk profile, investment amount (initial and regular top-ups) as well as the time horizon to achieve your goal. We use exchange traded funds to construct investment portfolios for Goal investing as they are low cost, track the broader market and diversified.

  • What is Thematic investing?

Thematic investing refers to investing in marketable securities (e.g. equities) which may benefit from certain macroeconomic events or secular/cyclical trends globally, regionally or specific to a certain country. Examples include US Technology Leaders (for global technology innovation theme) and Hong Kong Property (for property sector recovery theme). We typically use individual stocks to construct Thematic portfolios as they are liquid, affordable and low cost to execute.

  • Can I have more than one goal?

Yes, you can have multiple goals set up for Goal investing. Each goal constitutes a portfolio and is tracked individually in terms of performance and reporting.

  • What is the minimum investment amount?

Our investment amount starts at S$3,500 for Goal Investing and for Thematic Investing the minimum investment amount differs from one portfolio to another.

  • Will I receive my dividends from my investment?

Yes, any dividends will be credited to your portfolio.

  • How do you determine my risk profile?

We will require you to answer some questions about your financial circumstances, risk appetite and investment experience and based on your answers we will assign a risk profile to you.

  • Can I change my risk profile?

    No.

  • How is a portfolio recommended?

We base our portfolio recommendation on your assigned risk profile by the platform.

  • Can I choose to invest in a different portfolio?

Yes, you may choose a portfolio that has a different risk profile from your assigned risk profile. However, we require you to acknowledge and accept the risks that come from investing in a higher risk profile portfolio, for example when a Growth profile investor invests in an Aggressive profile portfolio. For certain clients whom we deem as unsuitable to invest in a higher risk profile portfolio, we may disallow the client from investing in such a portfolio.

  • What is rebalancing?

The idea behind rebalancing is to bring the asset allocation (e.g. proportion in equities, fixed income and gold) in a portfolio back to the asset allocation that reflects the risk profile of the portfolio you signed up for. This is because the prices of the individual securities would have moved over time with the market changing the asset allocation proportions. Rebalancing ensures your portfolio accurately reflects your assigned risk profile.

  • How frequent is the rebalancing carried out?

We rebalance Goal portfolios every 6 months in January and July and Thematic portfolios every 3 months, i.e. in January, April, July and October. We will send you notification 14 days and 7 days before the rebalancing date for Goal and Thematic portfolios respectively.

  • If I have multiple goals, how will my funds be allocated?

We allocate your funds into the goals based on your instruction during purchase of the portfolios.

  • What happens if there is not enough money to invest in multiple goals I have signed up for?

We will not invest in any of your goals until you tell us which goal to allocate the funds into. Under the Customer Dashboard, select the goal that you want to fund provided that the amount you transferred meets the minimum amount required for the portfolio. You may also top up the investment amount anytime by transferring more funds into your account.

  • How can I top up my goals?

You may do so at the Customer Dashboard page by clicking “Invest More” option on the selected goal and then follow the instructions.

  • Taxes

  • Is there any tax implication on my dividends?

Yes, withholding tax applies to the dividends in accordance with the taxation laws of the country of that stock and your tax status in your country of residence.
